What is it about the 4th of July that drives us to eat red, white, and blue food? If you’re fed up with strawberry and blueberry desserts, try these easy favorites.
Start with your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. Even the Tollhouse recipe is a great one for these treats.
Buy a bag of red, white, and blue m&m’s. Use these instead of chocolate chips. Since presentation is king for these cute cookies, I would recommend holding the m&m’s out until after you have dropped the dough onto the cookie sheet. Then flatten the cookies slightly with your fingers or the bottom of a glass, and press the desired amount of m&m’s on top. This way they won’t be visually obscured by dough.
Bake at the time and temperature listed on your recipe. Cool cookies completely.
Fill the center with your favorite buttercream. You can even use a canned frosting, I won’t tell! My tasty basic vanilla buttercream is what I’ve used for this photo.
Immediately after making your sandwiches, roll the edges in the sprinkles of your choice. I bought these for $1 in the dollar section at Target. If you wait to do this, the frosting will crust and the sprinkles won’t stick.
Serve and enjoy! Everyone will want one!
